Inflammation & Leaky Gut
I can’t stress enough how important fixing the gut is. Initially going on a fasting water diet for a few days will quiet the inflammation and pain in the gut so you can start the healing process.
Having leaky gut, or other inflammation or injury to the gut can cause your gut produce even less DAO. The tissue linings of your gut are what produce the DAO for the gut during digestion. If those cells that line the gut are damaged; they can not make DAO - thus increasing your histamine burden.
Leaky gut allows food particles to enter the blood stream, triggering autoimmune response and additional histamine.
When the gut is badly damaged, it doesn’t move food through your intestines as well as it should. Leaving food to sit in your gut and start fermenting – which DRASTICALLY raises histamine, causes further damage, and can create infections or bacterial overgrowth.

Healing the gut is one of the most important steps in lowering your histamine levels, controlling mast cell reactions, and reducing your inflammation levels.

L-Glutamine can be extremely beneficial for helping to heal the lining of your gut, as well as betaine, which also lowers homocysteine levels.
Bone broth is also very good at healing the gut due to its collagen content, however both collagen and bone broth may not be well tolerated by mast cell patients or histamine intolerance patients; because it does increase histamine levels and lowers DAO.
Taking a DAO supplement may or may not be enough to help you tolerate it.

Slippery Elm/Marshmallow Root powder can help soothe and protect the digestive tract creating barrier. Its also very helpful for interstitial cystitis.
DE-glycrrhizinate Licorice Root Powder and Histamine reducing probiotics can also be a great tool in your arsenal.
Leaky gut revive is a great product and has many of the ingredients in it – and its specifically geared for those with histamine or mast cell issues (without the collagen or bone broth).

A temporary water diet can help; if you don’t feed the the bad bacteria they will die off.
Plus it can help calm down an overworked, over irritated, raw, and inflamed gut.
However, I need to stress you should never go more than 7 days on a water diet without doctor supervision. However 3-7 days is the norm.
Plus if you give the gut a break from digesting, it does a whole tissue turn over within those 7 days. For some that will be the only thing they need to do to heal. However, for many of us, our damage is more severe and will require additional help in the form of juicing leafy greens, and fruits (if not insulin resistant). The plethora of nutrients, vitamins, phytosterols, and phytonutrients will help expedite your healing by flooding your body with the vitamins and nutrients. This will also means your food is technically "pre-digested" and by juicing you're giving your gut additional time and nutrients readily absorbable in order to heal. This will also help heal chronic dehydration which is a bigger problem for us than we may realize.
Word of note: Make sure you ONLY get organic produce for juicing otherwise you'll have made the toxins and pesticides readily available for absorption. You dont want that!! You also want to avoid big box stores for your produce as those too are of lower quality and higher pesticides, GMOs etc.
Never underestimate the power of good old fashioned vegetables.
PROBIOTICS:
Probiotics are usually only good for short term use, however, everyone is different, if you find it extremely beneficial to continue taking (especially if you're still on the Standard American Diet) it will continue to help reduce histamine as well.

However, some probiotics out there, or long term use, can actually create an imbalance or lead to gut dysbiosis or other issues like SIBO; especially those extremely strong probiotics out on the market. Stronger doesn't always necessarily mean better.
They can also interfere with delivery of certain medications. MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston found that melanoma patients were 70% less likely to respond to cancer immunotherapy while on strong probiotics.

There’s studies taking place that long term usage of probiotics might actually upset the balance of “good” bacteria in the gut and interfere with the immune response.

Fruits and vegetables are the best sources of nutrients for a healthy microbiota. They are high in fiber, which can’t be digested by your body. However, Fiber CAN be digested by certain healthy bacteria in your gut; which will stimulate their growth.

By taking care of your gut through diet, you'll find your body, and your gut, will be happier and healthier. It will help reduce inflammation in the body, food allergies, provide adequate amounts of enzymes, nutrients, and amino acids needed by the body.
Love and Light,
Happy Healing
