Baby Food and Hair??
THAT'S RIGHT, YOU HEARD IT HERE!! Baby food and Hair!!
Crazy Right?
You've probably already heard of feeding dogs Pumpkin or Sweet Potato to help them keep a thick shiny, and well nourished coat of fur.
I was feeding them one day and thought to myself, "Hmmmm, I wonder... would this work for us too?"
Now I am NO fan of sweet potato or pumpkin. Never liked them, but due to their super food make up- I'm learning to like them (under protest).
Sweet potatoes and pumpkin are full of phyto-nutrients that can help your physical health and your hair.
This super food is PACKED full of anti-inflammatory and blood sugar reducing nutrients. Its high in vitamins A, B, C, D, and E and it also contains iron, zinc, copper, calcium, potassium, niacin, and magnesium. (in game show voice) AND THAT'S NOT ALL!
The combination of vitamins and minerals make this recipe a "BEAUTY BOMB" for your body and hair; and help give you healthy, bouncy tresses and can even help with complexion.
Now having any chronic condition you always have to work a little extra to make sure you're not deficient in any vitamin or mineral. Which can get pretty hard to do at times. So every little bit helps!
Potassium helps promote healthy hair and regrowth. Beta-Carotene is converted into vitamin A which helps your scalp's natural oils, seals in the moisture, and also promotes hair growth. The Omega-3 fatty acids add luster by feeding your hair and follicles. Folate, an important B vitamin, stimulates hair growth by improving blood circulation to the scalp and hair follicle.
CAUTION: Do not go overboard with the Vitamin A or you will actually wind up CAUSING hair loss. So once or twice a week should be sufficient. If you have dry, dull, lifeless hair - it may actually be a sign of vitamin A deficiency.
Now you're probably wondering 'why baby food?' Because baby food is extremely thin and easy to rinse out, it also tends to be fortified with vitamins and minerals- which is good because we already have a hard enough time keeping them at healthy levels. However, you can buy it or make your own. I just found baby food was far easier.
Oh did I mention how cost effective it can be?
So if you're struggling to keep your hair soft, luscious, and well nourished- then you'll want to try this.
RECIPE:
1 Jar of organic sweet potato and/or pumpkin baby food
1 Jar of banana puree baby food (potassium rich and optional)
2 tbsp honey (humectant)
1 tbsp olive oil (or coconut oil) Olive oil is a natural antihistamine
Mix it in a bowl together and then put it in your hair. I usually just shovel it into my hair. Others may section it, comb it in, or use a hair coloring brush.
Once you've saturated your hair and scalp, cover your hair with a plastic cap and leave it on for 20-30 minutes. If you want even EXTRA moisturizing - use a hot towel and wrap it around the plastic cap. The heat will keep it thin, as well as opening the hair shafts to drink in even more of the wonderful nutrients.
Rinse it out and style as usual.
Now you can use this as a 'pre-poo' or as a deep conditioner afterward.
Note: Remember natural hair solutions don't always go with chemically processed hair very well. So you may have an adjustment period.
Love and Light,
Happy Healing!
